Overseas teachers kickstart UK careers at the Education Placement Group’s induction event
On 2 January 2025, Teach London warmly welcomed their next cohort of overseas teachers at their joint induction event with Supply Desk.
The overseas teachers arrived from Australia and Canada and were greeted at the Group’s overseas office in Stratford, London. They spent the day preparing for their new teaching roles in schools across the London boroughs and the home counties.
The induction training provided a comprehensive overview of key aspects of teaching in the UK. Participants were introduced to the UK curriculum and its structure, as well as essential topics such as adaptive teaching, behaviour management and vital safeguarding practices. A strong emphasis was placed on the UK’s professional standards and conduct, to ensure the teachers were well-prepared for the classroom environment.
The session was led by Robyn Johnstone, Chief Executive Officer at Education Placement Group – parent company of Teach London and Supply Desk – and the day featured group tasks, interactive discussions and valuable input from both Teach London and Supply Desk overseas teachers and staff.
Feedback from the teachers was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the event as an invaluable resource that helped them feel more confident and prepared for their new roles. Attendees feedback included: “Really helpful. While there is some new and challenging content, the overview was insightful and well-paced” and “the presentation was clear and easy to follow. There was enough time for questions, and nothing felt rushed.”
Equipped with tools and insights, the teachers will begin their long-term teaching roles across London and the home counties. Supported by both Teach London and Supply Desk, they’re ready to make a positive impact on students’ education in their new schools.
