Part-time ELSA in Primary School – Fareham area

Starting in January 2025

Salary: £78 – 90 per day (depending on experience)

About the School:

The school is an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ primary school in the Fareham area. They are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to start in September, on a full-time basis with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.  

Job Description:

The Support Staff position encompasses a variety of duties designed to assist both students and teachers. You will actively participate in the learning process by working closely with teaching staff to help plan and deliver lessons across multiple subjects. Your responsibilities will include offering personalised support to students, such as one-on-one assistance for children with additional needs, ensuring they receive the guidance necessary for their academic advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

–          Perform the professional responsibilities of an ELSA.

–          Provide interventions to students individually and in small groups.

–          Develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the students involved. Familiarise yourself with students’ backgrounds and needs (including Student SEND passports, EHCPs, and any other relevant documents) and implement appropriate strategies.

–          Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, treating them with respect and consideration.

–          Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge students, while contributing to the overall life of the school.

–          Support students with emotional needs.

–          Demonstrate best practices.

–          Help students build confidence and enhance their self-esteem.

Requirements:

–          Prior experience as an ELSA or in a similar role within an educational setting is preferred.

–          A passion for education and dedication to supporting students’ academic and personal growth.

–          Experience in a KS1/KS2 environment.

–          Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

–          Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently.

–          Patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude towards challenges.

–          Experience with Special Educational Needs (SEN) children is an advantage.

Qualifications:

–          Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

–          Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance or Education are advantageous but not essential.
