Are you a passionate English Teacher who believes that every young person deserves an engaging, accessible, and meaningful education? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist secondary setting in Fareham where relationships, consistency, and individual progress sit at the heart of everything we do.

About the Setting

This specialist SEN secondary school supports pupils aged 11–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and additional communication and learning needs. Many pupils have experienced disruption to their education and benefit from a highly structured, trauma-informed approach delivered by a dedicated and understanding staff team.

Class sizes are small, support is strong, and the focus is on re-engaging learners through personalised pathways that build confidence, communication skills, and a love of learning.

The Role

As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and adaptable English lessons across KS3 and KS4, tailored to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities. You will play a key role in helping students develop literacy skills, express themselves confidently, and re-engage with education in a supportive environment.

This full-time role starts September 26 and runs until the end of December with the potential to continue into January for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated English lessons that meet individual SEN needs
  • Create a calm, safe, and predictable learning environment
  • Build positive relationships that support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and therapists
  • Support pupils’ academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development
  • Use creative and flexible approaches to teaching, including functional and real-world literacy

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience working with SEN pupils (SEMH and/or ASC preferred, but not essential)
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and learning
  • Strong classroom management rooted in consistency and understanding
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

Why Work Through Supply Desk

  • Competitive daily rates
  • A dedicated consultant who understands SEN education
  • Access to SEN-focused CPD and training opportunities
  • Opportunities for long-term placements and career progression
  • £100 referral bonus for recommending a friend
