Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence, and reach their full potential in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and participation.
- Promote independence, confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards learning.
- Use visual aids, structured routines, and clear instructions to support understanding.
- Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour using calm, consistent, and positive strategies.
- Assist pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, outdoor activities, and school trips where required.
- Support personal care and hygiene needs where appropriate.
- Monitor and record pupils’ progress, behaviour, and engagement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, carers, and other professionals.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Follow school policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, behaviour, and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm and positive when managing challenging situations.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff.
- A commitment to inclusion and helping every child achieve their potential.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
