SEN Teaching Assistant – Borehamwood

Contract: Full-time
Pay: £85–£115 per day (Dependent on experience)

Supply Desk is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and supportive school in Borehamwood. This is a rewarding opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers and the SEN team, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and helping them to flourish both academically and personally.

The successful candidate will provide tailored support within the classroom, helping pupils develop confidence, independence and a love for learning. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure every child receives the encouragement and support they need to reach their full potential.

Key Duties:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and SEMH.
  • Support pupils in accessing lessons by adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and the development of social and communication skills.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver personalised support and interventions.
  • Observe, monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff where required.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to support.
  • Promote independence, confidence and active participation within the classroom.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every child can succeed.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (desirable).
  • An understanding of a range of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and speech and language needs.
  • A caring, patient and flexible approach to supporting children’s learning and wellbeing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence in supporting positive behaviour and pupil engagement.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience working within a primary or secondary school setting is advantageous.
