Secondary School Learning Support Assistant – Watford

Location: Watford area
Start Date: ASAP | Full-Time
Salary: £85 – £110 per day

Supply Desk is currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in the Watford area. This is an excellent opportunity to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full academic potential.

Working as part of a supportive pastoral and teaching team, the successful candidate will provide valuable assistance both inside and outside the classroom. You will play a key role in promoting student engagement, encouraging positive learning behaviours, and supporting the overall wellbeing of young people within the school community.

This role would be ideal for an experienced Learning Support Assistant, a graduate looking to gain school-based experience, or an individual with relevant transferable skills who is passionate about supporting secondary-aged students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide effective classroom support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4
• Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to support learning, progress, and engagement
• Assist teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of lessons
• Support students with additional learning needs, adapting approaches where necessary
• Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in learners
• Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a calm and productive learning environment
• Support students’ emotional wellbeing and participation in wider school life
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents where appropriate

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, mentoring, or support-based setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting young people
• The ability to build positive relationships and engage students effectively
• A genuine interest in education and student development
• An understanding of safeguarding practices and responsibilities (desirable)
