Location: Southampton
Pay: £168.80 – £260.98 per day (Dependent on Experience)
Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm

About the Role

Are you a compassionate and resilient educator looking to make a genuine difference in a specialist setting?

Supply Desk are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a well-established specialist provision in Southampton, working primarily with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs from September 2026 on a long term contract that could go permanent for the right person.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who require a highly personalised and therapeutic approach to learning, helping them to re-engage with education and build confidence for the future.

About the Provision

This is a specialist academy catering for children and young people aged 4–16 with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, autism spectrum conditions, and associated learning difficulties.

The setting offers:

  • A nurturing, trauma-informed environment where student wellbeing is central to all practice
  • Small class sizes, allowing for highly personalised and relationship-based teaching
  • A strong focus on emotional regulation, communication, and independence skills
  • A curriculum designed to support both academic progress and personal development, with pathways leading toward meaningful post-16 opportunities
  • Access to multi-disciplinary support, including therapy and pastoral teams
  • A commitment to creating safe, structured learning environments where students can build trust and succeed

Many pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require consistent, supportive approaches to help them regulate emotions and access learning.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering adapted, engaging lessons across core subjects (primarily English and Maths)
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced barriers to education
  • Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and engagement in learning
  • Creating a safe, consistent and structured classroom environment
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants, SEN teams, and external professionals to meet individual student needs

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or significant SEN teaching experience
  • Experience working with SEMH students (highly desirable)
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour
  • Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills
  • A passion for inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners
  • Excellent communication skills and a trauma-informed, restorative mindset

Benefits of Working with Supply Desk

  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement
  • Access to CPD and specialist SEN training, including SEMH strategies
  • Opportunity for long-term and permanent positions
  • £100 referral bonus for recommending a friend
